ANNIVERSARY BELLS RINGING

Aug 19, 2024

The Maxwell House Hotel was only three years new when newlyweds Fred and Judy Beckerman spent their wedding night here. It was 1941, August 18th to be exact, when the couple said their vows at 8AM that morning at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fowler, KS. En route to Colorado Springs for their honeymoon, the couple got word that the Maxwell House Hotel was the best address in southeastern Colorado. Decision to stop was made!

Son Michael Beckerman, a resident of Wichita, recalls that his mother would comment each year on her anniversary that they stayed in “a very nice room that had blue carpeting.”

Another amenity mentioned in historic archives were the wool blankets embroidered with the Maxwell House Hotel logo. And the bonus of staying at the now-called-Max was that it was considered fireproof, built of concrete including the walls, ceilings and floors.

Happy memories!
